Syrups can be used to produce or to add a final touch to various non-alcoholic beverages, cocktails, dairy products and ice cream. That makes syrup a cost effective solution, allowing consumers to mix their favourite drink easily from the comfort of their own home.
Syrups have a widely differing acceptance in the various global markets. For example, the UK, France, Argentina, South Africa and Australia are established syrup markets with the highest per-capita consumption. On a global scale, the most beloved flavours are orange, lemon, raspberry and strawberry. Country-specific preferences do exist too, though – such as mint, pineapple and cola. Syrups are available on the market in just about any type of packaging from a small bottle (0.275 litres) through to bag-in-box packaging (10 litres). 
The concepts for syrup range from near-water beverages in the non-alcoholic beverage segment through to fruity beverages and carbonates, all the way to sports drinks or energy drinks. Further application possibilities include the addition of syrup to alcoholic beverages (as a cocktail or long drink), dairy products or even to add a special touch to ice cream.
