Even 2,000 years ago, pomegranate, which originally comes from Persia, was known for its fertility. And it has certainly proved fruitful ground for the beverage industry in particular over the last five years. It is therefore not only its healthy ingredients that make it a real 'superfruit': around 400 beverages with the taste of pomegranate were introduced to the market globally in 2012. This is an increase of 13% compared to 2011!
But it is not just in non-alcoholic beverages that pomegranate is becoming a real must-have. A large number of products are now available in the alcoholic beverages and food segments, too. The spectrum stretches from pomegranate vinegar to liqueurs or grenadine syrup and even chocolate with a pomegranate-chilli taste. In short, pomegranate is absolutely on trend!
As a worldwide leading manufacturer of technology-driven natural ingredients, ingredient systems and integrated solutions, Döhler offers the beverage and food industry a portfolio of premium pomegranate not from concentrate juices, concentrates, specially stabilised juice concentrates and natural flavours.
Premium quality pomegranate raw materials thanks to our own fruit processing!
Pomegranate has particularly fruity, aromatic nuances once it has reached its ideal stage of ripening. Pomegranates do not continue to ripen once picked, so they need to be chilled or processed immediately after the harvest. Döhler still processes only the best fruits locally in a particularly gentle process at its own plants in order to retain the taste and characteristic ruby-red colour of the pomegranate. This ensures the highest quality in pomegranate concentrates, not from concentrate juices and natural flavours. In addition, Döhler uses a particularly sophisticated filtration process to produce specially stabilised pomegranate juice concentrates, which are used in carbonated products.
In order to guarantee access to the consistent premium quality of the pomegranate, Döhler has secured the fruits contractually with long-term supplier relationships.
Like many other red fruits, pomegranate has been celebrated as a 'superfruit' by the media in recent years. These fruits are said to have a particularly positive effect on health. Pomegranate was the superfruit that enjoyed the highest acceptance among consumers, and is currently among the top ten flavours for soft drinks in Europe and among the top five in North America. Thanks to its high polyphenol content, many consumers associate pomegranate with the topics of 'health' and 'beauty' even without specific advertising claims being used. Many cosmetics manufacturers continue to put this reputation to good use! Although there are strict limits on the claims that can be made regarding pomegranate's effects, the fruit is still suitable for beverages positioned as health-promoting.
