NBB®-PCR Broth

Enrichment of beer spoilage bacteria for subsequent PCR analysis

Molecular biological rapid test methods, such as PCR analysis (polymerase chain reaction), represent an excellent addition to traditional culture methods, such as those use for identifying positive results.

As it is highly sensitive, PCR can also be used to analyse beer samples, for example at sample sites where a fast result is required. PCR devices can only process minute sample volumes amounting to just a few µl. In order to perform the vital trace detection, the culture must be enriched 1-2 (3) days in advance.

NBB®-PCR Broth was developed specifically for the standardised pre-enrichment and subsequent PCR-based detection, free from beer-spoiling bacteria DNA and PCR inhibitors The specific nutrient composition promotes growth of strictly anaerobic bacteria such as Pectinatus spp. and Megasphaera spp. in addition to lactic acid bacteria, thereby enabling PCR-based detection to be conducted successfully after around 48 h. The sample spectrum includes (rinse) water, yeast and beer samples.
