Wort Agar
Quantitative detection of yeasts and moulds
The universal medium, wort agar, originated in breweries where the operational wort provides the ideal nutrient composition for yeast and mould growth (Saccharomyces pastorianus, Saccharomyces cerevisiae, Aspergillus brasiliensis, Penicillium roquefortii amongst others). The medium is also used in yeast propagation or for monitoring hygiene.
Instead of extract powders, Döhler produces beer wort itself and exclusively uses this to produce the ready-to-use wort agar to cover the entire spectrum of nutrients. The low pH value furthermore inhibits the non-relevant accompanying flora.
